Francis “Corkey” Maywhort
1939 – 2017
Corkey was born November 24, 1939 in Philadelphia, PA and passed away November 7, 2017 in Huntington Beach, CA. He grew up in Philadelphia relocating to California in 1962. He retired from McDonnell Douglas Aircraft after 33 years.
Corkey leaves behind his beloved wife Phyllis, two sons Mike and Kirk and daughter Julie Garrison, 5 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
As a young man, he raced cars, winning many trophies and later was an ardent NASCAR fan. Corkey enjoyed boating for over 50 years and with Phyllis cruised up & down the Southern California coast, including trips to their favorite spot on their mooring at Two Harbors, Catalina Island. They also did extensive motor homing throughout the USA, including Alaska.
He was a long time member & chairman of the Local Coastal Plan Board (LCP) in Sunset Beach. Corkey was a Sunset Beach volunteer fireman, an active member of MYCLB, NYCLB, the American Legion, Elks Lodge, and a past member of SlBYC and the Tuna Club of Long Beach.
Corkey had a keen, dry sense of humor and we will all miss him.
Memorial Services will be held at the Sunset Beach Community Center (Old Fire Station), on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 2:00pm.In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the
