Walter "Joe" W Routley

May 15, 1941 ~ September 4, 2019 (age 78)

Walter Wayne Routley, “Joe”, 78 of Seal Beach, California passed away September 4, 2019 in Los Alamitos, California.

Joe was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada to Fred and Ruthie Routley on May 15, 1941.  The Routley Family owned a motel and diner in Windsor, called Routley Motor Court.  During his childhood, Joe was charged with the renting of motel rooms, parking cars for guests and lending a hand wherever needed.

As a young man, Joe was employed in the automotive industry, assembling cars and driving tanker trucks.  When he was 26 years old, Joe left Canada for California.

After establishing himself in California, Joe began his career as a banker.  While Joe was very knowledgeable in both real estate and finance, he specialized in auditing and continued this career for over 50 years.  He was always willing to share his wealth of knowledge in these areas.  In his spare time, Joe enjoyed following the stock market, solving crossword puzzles, and watching Judge Judy and Dr. Phil.  Joe particularly relished being in attendance at the many functions and events of his four grandsons.

Joe was devoted to his daily walks with his beloved dogs, Bonnie and Clyde, through his city of Seal Beach. He became and remained a friend to everyone along the way.  There were no strangers in his life, only neighbors.  Joe had a legendary sense of humor with a special knack for humorous one-liners, leaving all around him smiling, just as he always was.

To accompany his easy going attitude, Joe sported a signature look that was all his: Reyn Spooner shirt, cargo shorts, and great hair with a collection of gold jewelry.

Joe is survived by his loving wife, Charlo to whom he was married for over 30 years and who all knew as Joe's counterpart; His one and only son, Jeff, from his first marriage to Judi (Rossi) and Jeff’s wife, Lindsay; and  Papa Joe will also be lovingly remembered by his four grandsons, Brandon, Brian, Lucas, and Nathan, along with his fur babies, Bonnie and Clyde.
