Mrs Marian LaVerta Smith went home to be with her Heavenly Father on March 12, 2021. She was born to the union of Thomas Gore and Beulah Johnson on November 24, 1941. Marian attended Cedar Grove Elementary, was a graduate of Union High School class of 1960. She moved to Washington DC to live with her sister Corene Wilkerson. She later joined the military United States Army November 8th 1963.

Marian was shipped overseas to Germany where she served as a Medical Specialist E4-Specialist Nurse. While in Germany, she met her husband Johnny R. Smith. They married on March 11, 1966.

Johnny and Marian then moved to California in September 1966 where they lived for the next 55 years of their marriage.

Marian's love for helping people, began her career in nursing at Daniel Freeman Hospital, Inglewood, CA in 1967. She later began to work for Little Company of Mary, Fountain Valley, CA in 1969. Her interest in research led her to work for Dr. Dine in Cancer Research in 1973, but her destination in the medical field was working for St. Joseph Hospital in Huntington Beach, CA from 1984 until her retirement in July 2020.

While living in California, Marian attended Los Angeles Harbor College, where she received a certificate of competency for vocational nursing on June 14th, 1974. She later attended the University of Southern California Los Angeles, where she received a certification in Administration Management on June 13, 1989.

Marian loved traveling with her husband on many cruises. They became members of Crystal Harmony Cruise Masters. She enjoyed being with her family and talking to her sister Laura Mazell Bryant everyday.

She was preceded in death by: father Thomas Gore, mother Beulah Gore, sister Corene Wilkerson, brother James (JP) Hewitt,

She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish memories: husband Johnny R. Smith, sister Laura Mazell Bryant, brother Thomas Carver (Ella) Gore, sister-in-law Doris Hewitt; four brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
