John Michael “Jack” Hollis, Sr, a resident of Garden Grove, who recently turned 90, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family.
Born in Phoenixville, PA on October 19th, 1930, John was the fifth of six children born to Michael & Mary Hollis.
John served in the United States Navy as an avionics technician aboard an aircraft carrier stationed off Japan.Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he relocated to Arizona where he met his wife Rose in 1958 and two years later, they married at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Tucson.He went on to attend the University of Arizona in Tucson, and graduated in 1965 with a degree in Psychology.
After moving his family to Southern California in 1965 for his first post-graduation job, he began what was a multi-year career in the personnel/recruiting industry that included jobs at U.S. Electrical Motors, Collins Foods International and Lockheed Aircraft. His time at Lockheed was often spent in overseas trips to Saudi Arabia and included a 3- year relocation to the UK with his entire family.He would later make a career switch to the home improvement industry and he eventually retired in 1995.
After retiring, he enjoyed gardening, collecting “antiques”, watching his beloved Arizona Wildcats play basketball, and spending time with his large extended family.
John, who is preceded in death by his son Mark Stephen, is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rose, his eldest son John, his wife Kristie, sons Matthew, Christopher and Andrew, his elder daughter Ann Pearce, her husband Jerry, daughter Brittany Engel, sons Taylor Engel, his wife Janelle and Kyle Pearce, his daughter Michelle Denny and her husband Michael, their daughters Megan and Madelyn, his son Michael, Mark’s widow Christine, and their daughter Natalie and her daughter Nicole Nist, and great-grandchildren Gianna & Luke Engel.
A memorial Rosary will be held in the chapel at Heritage-Dilday Memorial Services in Huntington Beach, on Friday, November 13th at 6:00pm.
The funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 14th at 10:00am at Blessed Sacrament Church in Westminster, CA.
