Ann Marie Houser

Ann Marie (O’Dea) Houser was born in the Territory of Hawai’i on May 7, 1932 and passed away at home on April 1, 2021 in Huntington Beach, CA.

As a child, Ann’s family settled in Lynwood, CA where she met her future husband, Jerry, in the Catholic Youth Organization at St. Emydius Church.  She and Jerry married at St. Emydius in 1953 and raised their family in Lynwood before moving to Huntington Beach in the 70s.

Ann was her neighborhood “Avon lady” in Huntington Beach for nearly 30 years, almost too shy to ring her first doorbell, but she quickly earned her way into the elite President’s Club and created many lasting friendships along the way.  She was steadfast in her Catholic faith and fiercely proud of her Irish heritage.  After Jerry retired, the two of them traveled to various places in the U.S. and around the world, usually making it back to Hawai’i annually.  Las Vegas was one of her favorite destinations, but when she really needed to relax, she would think about floating on an air mattress in the pool at the house they rented in Palm Springs in the summer.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents John J. and Mildred I. (Ambill) O’Dea; her husband Gerald; daughter Carol; and brother John. She will be greatly missed by her sons Michael Houser, Mark Houser (Lorraine), daughter Kathleen Horder (Christopher), her grandchildren Chase, Reed, and Rachel, and many other friends, relatives, and neighbors.

Mom always made everything all better.
