I’m so sad that I just learned of Louie’s passing. He was a teacher, mentor and unbelievably special friend to me. Beginning when I was only 17 and attending my first year at ELA, he was my favorite teacher and took me under his wing when I was having difficulty in some classes. We kept connecting while I attended San Jose State and UCLA, attended both of my weddings, my daughter’s wedding and my mom’s memorial service. He was always there for me and I knew it! There is a hole in my heart that no one can ever fill. Rest In Peace my most special friend. Love you

Louie was a blessing to all who met him. He was a gregarious man, with a quick wit, and kind smile. Louie was great to be around to simply experience his energy . He was the best Louie, for whom I'll forever love.
My condolences to all who have known him and will surely miss him.

Louie had that rare gift of making you feel like the most interesting and special person he knew. To be known by him was to be loved for who you really are. He once told me he loved me like a daughter. Since he reminded me so much of my own Daddy it was praise indeed. Time spent with Patty and Lou was always precious, never predictable and always a riot of fun. Love always, Katy Olmstead

I’m so glad I got to know Louie on our trip to Ireland with him & Patty, my Mom & Aunt Catherine. So much fun. He put up with 4 Irish women—talking, singing, giving directions—all with a smile and his sense of humor intact. (Though he did insist at one point that we listen to some Italian music!) You will be missed, Louie.
