1939 - 2024

Jean Hefner, 84, of Huntington Beach, California, passed peacefully on April 16th at her home, cradled in the loving arms of her husband, Jerry.

Jean was the daughter of Joe and Francis Messmer. As a young adult, she ventured west to California, where she married her soulmate, Jerry Hefner, in 1967.

A matriarch in every sense, Jean devoted her life to nurturing her family and supporting the family business, Hefner Mold Company, as a dedicated bookkeeper for over 50 years. Her career also spanned two decades in the retail industry, where her warmth and wit brightened many days.

She will be most dearly remembered as a devoted wife, mom and grandma, where she took an active role in supporting and celebrating the lives of those around her. 

Jean's zest for life was infectious. She loved telling stories that drew laughter and turned moments into memories, particularly during family celebrations. Her laughter and love echo in our memories, a reminder to all who knew her that life is to be cherished and celebrated. She had a deep connection to the Holy Spirit and deeply cherished her Catholic faith. Her spirit is epitomized by Matthew 5:16, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."

Jean's legacy lives on through her beloved husband of 57 years, Jerry; daughter Donna; son Mark and his wife Deb; grandchildren Jenna, Tyler, and Jack; and sisters Carol, Therese, and Sister Mary Carol, OSB. 

Preceding her in death are five sisters; Clara; Sister Mary Gerald, OSB; Dorothy; Mary Ann; and Roberta; and brothers, Pete, Jerry with two brothers who died in infancy, Joseph and Thomas.

Please join us in remembering Jean at a rosary at 11:00 AM and Funeral Mass at 11:30 AM on Friday, May 10, 2024, at St. Bonaventure Church, 16400 Springdale St., Huntington Beach, California, 92649. Interment will follow at Good Shepherd Cemetery in Huntington Beach.
