Honoring the Life of Hai Phi Nguyen

It is only fitting that we begin our Tribute to our beloved Father and Husband with his Life Story.   As we remember the man, the legend we had the pleasure to call our Father and Husband to our Mother.  We would like to mention that our Father was a man of many talents.  So please join us as we embark in celebrating our wonderful Father’s life in these next few paragraphs.

Papa Hai was born on June 1, 1949 in Vietnam.  Before fleeing Vietnam in 1975, he was a Physics professor and played guitar in a band.  I guess you can say he was brains, talent and looks!  While fleeing from Vietnam, he met our Mother and fell in love instantly.  They married in Paris, France and had 3 children; Dr. Huy Cao Nguyen, Dr. Jeanne Nguyen and Catherine Nguyen (BS).  In France, he studied nights for his Engineering degree while working tirelessly during the day to provide for our family.  Our Father was a romantic, he spent his spare time drawing beautiful pieces of arts and serenading our Mother with his guitar.

Eventually, we made our way to the United States to reunite with our extended family.  After 16 years in France, our Father started all over again to attain his Engineering certifications to work in the United States.  Within a year of moving, our parents bought their home in Santa Ana, CA.  That home is now his forever home.

Our Father is the foundation of our family, he taught us countless life lessons that we will pass on for generations.  Papa is our biggest supporter, cheerleader, role model, our hero.  He is the greatest Love of our lives.  He worked to provide us with everything we needed to succeed as individuals. He enjoyed taking on any challenges and tackled each with everything he had.  He taught us to live our lives with that same motto.  He wanted us to succeed but to always remember where our roots were.  Humility was something our Father greatly wanted to instill in us.

To his friends, he was the life of the party, a fearless and loyal friend.  To our friends, our Dad was the neighborhood Dad.  Growing up, he would be the fun Chaperone on field trips and adventures.  As we got older, he became the cool dad and would occasionally take shots with us.

We have countless memories of our Father that would fill the universe, but the best of them are the ones of his undeniable Love for his Family.  Papa, you are missed dearly and loved beyond measure.  We will keep celebrating your life and continue to make you proud.  We will continue to take care of the Love of your life, our Maman.  Finally, we will teach all your life lessons to your golden nugget, Connor and to all your future grandchildren.  Your stories will be told over and over again for generations to come.  We will one day all be together again, but for now please start building our forever home in heaven.

On t’aime pour toujour!
